The fortwo from smart is an unmistakable two-seater city car that carries you along the narrowest urban routes effortlessly. It does so in style, and the car’s unique personality is seen both on the outside and inside the innovative cabin.
The fortwo may be small, but it makes a big impression. The latest version of the popular vehicle has a sporty look and feel thanks to its low stance and strong features. Large rounded headlamps flank a honeycomb grille on the car’s nose and you can add optional LED daytime running lights for a striking aesthetic day and night. The bi-colour body is now a smart hallmark, and with a wheel at the very end of each side the fortwo is unlike any other.
The model continues to surprise and impress when you open either of its doors. Doing so presents you with an amazingly spacious interior that is crafted to an uncompromising standard. Every detail of the cabin has been considered for how it can enhance the vehicle’s emotional appeal. Evidence of this includes the fabric-covered dash, honeycomb speaker design and pronounced air vents. A 3.5-inch colour TFT display replaces the traditional instrument cluster, while the smart Audio-System boasts Bluetooth audio streaming and telephone function as well as USB and AUX input. These features plus many others are standard-fit across the range.
Power is provided by your choice of two refined petrol engines. The 90hp three-cylinder unit is turbocharged to deliver sprightly acceleration as you move through the gears. It links to smart’s five-speed manual gearbox which carries it from 0-62mph in 10.4 seconds. The engine is clean and economical too as it releases only 97g/km of CO2. The 72hp alternative boasts emissions of just 93g/km and just beats the 90hp petrol with combined economy as high as 68.9mpg.
Safety was a high priority for smart when designing the fortwo. You can see its Tridion safety shell on the outside, as this forms one half of the two-tone paint finish. Its main purpose is to protect you from the forces of an unlikely impact and is made of 75 percent high-strength steel to do so. Front and side airbags for driver and passenger give extra protection should an accident occur, and clever smart technology prevents a collision. Crosswind assist keeps the car on its path when a strong gust pushes on one side of the car by applying targeted braking. Cruise control enables you to set a steady speed, and an Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) prevents a skid if you need to brake sharply.
